Volunteer Coordinators

We are looking for one or more Volunteer Coordinators for MAJR to assist us in helping volunteers find their best position to advance justice reform in Maryland. To start with, we have a list of over fifty people who have indicated that they want to volunteer.

Working with MAJR committee chairs, you would help volunteers find the best way they can contribute their skills, clarify their responsibilities, then encourage and retain enthusiastic volunteers. Sound organizational skills and the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and experience will help.

This is a volunteer, unpaid position. We estimate it will require 5-10 hours each week.

Responsibilities

In coordination with MAJR’s Executive Committee,

  • Clarify and reword this document as needed to define your role
  • Help MAJR recruit volunteers through various techniques (databases, e-mail, social media etc.)
  • Follow up on names and leads provided by other MAJR members
  • Ensure the purpose of the organization and its actions are clearly communicated to volunteers
  • Collect information on volunteers’ availabilities and skills, usually through phone calls
  • Coordinate appropriate training when needed
  • Follow up with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well-placed
  • Keep records of each volunteers’ information and initial assignment

Helpful background

  • Experience as volunteer coordinator or similar position
  • Able to communicate effectively with diverse people
  • Excellent organizational and team coordination abilities
  • A pleasant, outgoing personality
  • Experience in volunteering
  • Experience in recruiting through various channels
  • Working knowledge of databases and MS Office (especially Excel)
